Quantum Quandrix precon upgrade guide
Thirteen of the box's token makers cost five or more, and ten of its lands enter tapped.
Adrix and Nev, Twincasters is a four-mana 2/2 with ward {2} that makes every token you create arrive twice. Over twenty of the other 99 cards can make you one, so the engine isn't what this box is short of. The delay is. Thirteen of those makers cost five or more, nine cards in the whole list cost six or more, and the top of the curve is a ten-drop. The mana that has to pay for all that comes from 40 lands, ten of which always enter tapped.
The colors are the second finding. Thirteen cards ask for two green mana by turn three, counting the hybrid ones, and that takes 36 green sources to hit 90%. The box has 29, which is 80.4%. Eight cards ask for two blue the same way against 25 blue sources, 71.8%. The box also runs seven draw spells where the usual range is eight to twelve.
Twelve swaps, $52.08 in total, at October 2026 prices for the cheapest released printing (which can be a promo). Doubling Season is $29.21 of that, and nine of the other eleven cost under $2 each.

100 cards, 39 lands (21 basic), 28 creatures, average mana value 3.67. Mana sources: 26 blue, 30 green.

What are the best Quantum Quandrix upgrades?
Twelve swaps, in the order I'd buy them:
- Tireless Tracker ($0.24), Awakening Zone ($0.38) and Biogenic Ooze ($0.23). Three engines that each make more tokens once the commander is out. Argued in the engines section.
- Avenger of Zendikar ($0.44) and Overwhelming Stampede ($0.72). A seven-drop that makes a Plant per land and a five-drop that turns them into an attack.
- Harmonize ($0.19) and Fact or Fiction ($0.19). Two draw spells, taking the box from seven to nine.
- Hinterland Harbor ($0.24), Botanical Sanctum ($1.42) and Breeding Pool ($9.56). Three blue-green lands that enter untapped most of the time, argued in the mana section. Breeding Pool is the dearest and has a reprint coming.
- Heroic Intervention ($9.26). Gives your permanents hexproof and indestructible for a turn, so a board of tokens survives a destroy-based sweeper.
- Doubling Season ($29.21), last. It's more than half the total, and the deck plays without it.
Three cheap engines that read the commander
Tireless Tracker investigates whenever a land enters under your control. A Clue is a token, so Adrix and Nev makes it two. The deck puts lands onto the battlefield more often than its curve suggests. Rampant Growth, Kodama's Reach and Quandrix Cultivator each put one in, Nissa's Expedition puts in two, and Zimone, Quandrix Prodigy puts one down from your hand for {1}. Each of those fires landfall, and the box already has Rampaging Baloths, which makes a 4/4 Beast per land and so two. With Baloths and Tracker both out, Nissa's Expedition is four Beasts and four Clues. A Clue costs {2} to crack, and each one cracked puts a +1/+1 counter on the Tracker.
Awakening Zone makes a 0/1 Eldrazi Spawn at your upkeep if you want one, two with the commander, and each Spawn sacrifices for {C}. That's up to two colorless mana a turn before you cast anything, which is aimed at the seven- and eight-mana turns the rest of the list reaches for. It doesn't fix a color, so it's here for the bodies and the mana, not for the mana base. A Spawn is also a creature, so each one adds a card to Shamanic Revelation.
Biogenic Ooze is a 2/2 for {3}{G}{G} that makes a 2/2 Ooze when it enters, two with the commander. At each of your end steps every Ooze you control gets a +1/+1 counter, itself included. On the turn it lands that's three Oozes, and by the end step all three are 3/3. The next end step makes them 4/4. For {1}{G}{G}{G} it makes another one, doubled. The activation is the reason green's source count matters in the mana section.
A seven-drop and a five-drop that end it
Avenger of Zendikar makes a 0/1 Plant for each land you control when it enters. At seven lands that's seven Plants, and the commander makes it fourteen. Every land that enters afterwards lets you put a +1/+1 counter on each Plant. The box has two ways to turn small bodies into damage, Biomass Mutation and Return of the Wildspeaker, and neither gives trample. Overwhelming Stampede does it: until end of turn your creatures gain trample and get +X/+X, where X is the greatest power among them as it resolves. With Avenger as the biggest creature on your side, a 5/5, X is 5, and fourteen 0/1 Plants become 5/6 tramplers, which is 70 power in Plants alone. Spawn from Awakening Zone can pay for the {3} of Stampede's cost.
That's twelve mana in total, and it's a two-turn plan because Plants made on the turn Avenger lands can't attack until the next one. I looked at Craterhoof Behemoth for the same job and the price is in the section on cards I left at the shop.
Four big spells, four support cards and four lands leave
Desolation Twin is the one I'd argue about. Casting it makes a 10/10 Eldrazi token, and the commander doubles that, so ten mana buys three 10/10 bodies. It's still the only card in the list above eight, in a box whose average mana value is 3.86. Terastodon is a 9/9 for {6}{G}{G} that destroys up to three noncreature permanents and gives each one's controller a 3/3 Elephant. Aim it at an opponent's permanents and they get the Elephants, because the commander only doubles tokens you create. Aim it at your own lands and you get six Elephants for three lands and eight mana. Ezuri's Predation costs {5}{G}{G}{G}. It makes a 4/4 per opposing creature and each fights a different creature, but the commander doubles the tokens and not the fights. Scryfall's ruling says the extra tokens fight nothing, so half of them watch. Spawning Kraken is a 6/6 that only pays off when a Kraken, Leviathan, Octopus or Serpent connects. The only other Kraken in the box is the token at the end of Reef Worm's chain.
Perplexing Test, at {3}{U}{U}, returns all creature tokens or all nontoken creatures to hand, and both modes hit your side of the table. A token that's bounced stops existing. Kaseto, Orochi Archmage makes one creature unblockable for {G}{U} and gives a Snake +2/+2, and the only other Snakes are Champion of Wits and Coiling Oracle. Stampede gives the whole team trample for one spell. Krosan Grip is a split-second answer to an artifact or enchantment, and Beast Within and Trygon Predator still cover those. Fractal Harness makes a Fractal with X counters and doubles them each time that creature attacks, which suits one big creature and not a wide board.
The four lands are Study Hall, Temple of the False God, Lonely Sandbar and Tranquil Thicket. Study Hall taps for {C} and makes a color only if you pay {1} more. Temple of the False God taps for {C}{C} with five lands and for neither color. Sandbar and Thicket enter tapped, make one color each, and cycle for it. Cycling is a fair thing to want in a deck of 39 lands, and I took it out anyway. Spitting Image can be cast from the graveyard by discarding a land, and the landfall cards want lands on the battlefield, not in the bin.
Why Deekah, Paradox Zone and Garruk stay at five mana
Deekah, Fractal Theorist triggers on any instant or sorcery you cast or copy, and the Fractal it makes gets counters equal to that spell's mana value. A two-mana Rampant Growth makes two 2/2 Fractals with the commander out, so the cheap spells in the list aren't dead. Paradox Zone enters with a growth counter, doubles its counters at each of your end steps and then makes a Fractal with that many counters on it. That's 2, then 4, then 8 across three end steps, and with the commander it's two of each, six Fractals and 28 counters. The first trigger is the end step of the turn it's cast.
Garruk, Primal Hunter makes a 3/3 Beast with each +1, so two a turn here, and his -6 makes a 6/6 Wurm for each land you control. Starting at 3 loyalty he needs three +1s to get there. Under Doubling Season he enters with 6 and can use it the turn he lands, which is one of the better reasons the Season goes in this particular list.
Hydra Broodmaster is a 7/7 for six that scales with whatever mana is left. At {X}{X}{G} with X at 4, nine mana, it makes four 4/4 Hydras, and the commander makes that eight. Spitting Image costs six and reads as the same kind of overpriced card until you notice its retrace. Discarding a land card lets you cast it again from the graveyard, and each casting is a copy of your best creature, doubled.
Three untapped duals, and the colors are still short
The three duals go in for the four lands above. Hinterland Harbor enters tapped unless you control a Forest or an Island, and the deck has 11 Forests and 10 Islands. Botanical Sanctum enters untapped while you control two or fewer other lands, so it's an early-game land. Breeding Pool is a Forest Island, untapped if you pay 2 life, and being both types it switches Hinterland Harbor on by itself. The always-tapped count falls from 10 to 8 and three more lands are conditional. The calculator also credits Study Hall with every color, because it can make one for {1}, so the real gain is a little larger than the numbers below.
Green sources go from 29 to 30 and blue from 25 to 26. It doesn't close the gap. Fifteen cards now ask for two green, up from thirteen, because Avenger, Ooze, Stampede and Harmonize came in and only Terastodon and Ezuri's Predation left. The chance of two green sources by turn three rises from 80.4% to 82.2%. Blue is worse. Seven cards ask for two blue against 26 sources, 74.2%, up from 71.8%, and Commander's Insight asks for {U}{U}{U}. I'd rather say the mana is better and not fixed. If I had another $35 to spend, it would go on Misty Rainforest before any spell here.
Doubling Season doubles the doubler, and the counters
The deck already protects its commander with ward {2} and the hexproof Guardian Augmenter gives him, so Doubling Season isn't insurance. It's a multiplier. It doubles tokens under your control, which with the commander makes it four times as many, and it doubles counters put on your permanents, which the commander doesn't. Biomathematician, Deekah, Paradox Zone and Master Biomancer all put counters on things as they arrive. A Fractal that would have been one 4/4 becomes four 8/8s. Hornet Queen's four Insects become sixteen. Garruk's ultimate becomes four Wurms per land.
Scryfall's ruling on Doubling Season says a planeswalker enters with double its loyalty, and that the loyalty cost of an ability isn't doubled, so +1 still adds one. That's all I'm relying on for Garruk. At $29.21 it's more than half of the whole upgrade, and nothing else in the 12 depends on it, which is why it's last.
Four cards I priced and passed on
Rhystic Study ($65.68) is a Game Changer, so adding it makes Bracket 3 the lowest the list can honestly claim, and it costs more than the 12 swaps together. Craterhoof Behemoth ($23.32) is eight mana and {G}{G}{G}, and it's better than Stampede on a board of 0/1s because it reads the number of creatures, not the biggest power. But Stampede costs three mana less and 3% of the price. Parallel Lives ($27.67) doubles tokens and not counters, so it's a third doubler for tokens only, and if I'm adding one the Season does more. Misty Rainforest ($36.78) finds a Forest or an Island card, Breeding Pool included, and it's the best fixing I left out. None of the four is the one I'd buy first.
What the twelve swaps changed
Cards at six or more fall from 9 to 6, and cards at five rise from 10 to 12, so the list is lower but not light. The average mana value falls from 3.86 to 3.67. Lands go from 40 to 39 and creatures from 29 to 28. Draw spells go from 7 to 9. The bracket floor stays at 1 for both lists, and neither has a Game Changer.
The upgraded decklist
Hovering a name shows the card. Prices above are for the cheapest released printing, and the builder button pins the box's printings instead.
“Load into the deck builder” opens this list in your account, pinned to the printings the box shipped, ready to edit or save. “Copy decklist” gives you plain text for Moxfield, Archidekt or Arena, with no account needed.

FAQ
Do Doubling Season and Adrix and Nev stack?
Yes. They're separate replacement effects that both apply to the same token, so one token becomes four. Scryfall's ruling on two Doubling Seasons gives four times the tokens, and a Season beside the commander works the same way. Counters are different. Only the Season doubles those, so a Fractal that would have been one 4/4 becomes four 8/8s.
If Desolation Twin makes three 10/10s, why is it cut?
Because ten mana is a lot to ask of a list whose average card costs 3.86. With the commander out, the cast trigger makes two 10/10 tokens and the Twin is a third, so the payoff is real. Twelve swaps free slots for cards that work at four and five mana, though. If your table plays long games and your ramp is flowing, put it back over one of the draw spells.
Does the upgrade raise the bracket?
No. The floor is Bracket 1 for the box and for the upgraded list, and none of the twelve adds is a Game Changer. Rhystic Study is one, so adding it is the quickest way to a Bracket 3 floor. The checker tells you the lowest bracket a list can honestly claim, and how a pod rates the deck is up to the pod.
How big does Reef Worm get with Adrix and Nev?
When Reef Worm dies it leaves a Fish that leaves a Whale that leaves a 9/9 Kraken. Each step doubles with the commander out, so it's two Fish, then four Whales, then eight Krakens, provided each token dies in turn. That needs a lot of deaths, so I treat it as a bonus and not a plan. It's why the Worm stays.
Is the mana fixed after the swaps?
No, but it's better. Green sources go from 29 to 30 and blue from 25 to 26. The chance of two green sources by turn three rises from 80.4% to 82.2% and of two blue from 71.8% to 74.2%. Eight lands still always enter tapped, and three more are conditional.
What do the twelve swaps cost, and what should I buy first?
$52.08 in total at October 2026 prices for the cheapest released printing. Nine of the twelve cost under $2. Doubling Season is $29.21, Breeding Pool $9.56 and Heroic Intervention $9.26. Buy the engines, the finishers and the draw first, and the Season last. Breeding Pool is reprinted in Star Trek on 13 November 2026, so its price may fall.
