Which Marvel Super Heroes Commander precon should you buy?

Avengers Assemble is the Marvel deck to play as it comes, and The Fantastic Four is the one to rebuild. The two sit at opposite ends of the set. Captain America's box has the lowest curve of the four and one colour to keep an eye on. Invisible Woman's is the hardest to run as it ships, and after eleven swaps that leave every land alone it finishes with the lowest curve of any of them.

Marvel Super Heroes Commander is four decks, released on 26 June 2026 at $74.99 each. That's five dollars more than the Final Fantasy decks a year earlier and $25 more than Secrets of Strixhaven in April. Each also came as a $159.99 Collector's Edition with the same decklist, so everything here applies to those too. Here's who I'd point at each one:

Singles value is the TCGplayer market price of the printings each box shipped, summed, as of 10 October 2026. It moves every day, and each deck’s own page carries the current figure and what it means for the price you paid. All four decks cost $74.99 at release. None of the four sets a bracket floor: no box has a Game Changer or mass land denial. Each deck also came as a Collector’s Edition, the same hundred cards in foil.

Heroes, Villains, and two boxes with nothing to name

Avengers Assemble and Doom Prevails mirror each other. One names Hero and the other names Villain, and each word covers nearly the whole box: Hero is 27 of the 30 creatures behind Captain America, and Villain is 29 of the 32 behind Doctor Doom. Seven cards in Avengers Assemble make you choose a creature type and six in Doom Prevails do, and two of them are the same two lands, Secluded Courtyard and Unclaimed Territory.

Their guides go shopping in the same aisle as well. Both add Shared Animosity and Roaming Throne, and each picks up a type card the other box already holds. The Avengers guide adds Patchwork Banner, which ships in Doom Prevails, and the Doom guide adds Herald's Horn, which ships in Avengers Assemble. Both guides name Roaming Throne among the few cards that make up most of their cost, so if you mean to upgrade both decks, that's the one you'll be paying for twice.

The Fantastic Four and Wakanda Forever have types in common too, fourteen Heroes in one and fifteen Humans in the other. Neither box has a single card that asks you to choose a type, though, so those counts do nothing. Both guides reach past the typal line for the same creature, Faeburrow Elder, a Treefolk whose mana grows with the number of colours on your side of the table.

Where each box's mana gives out

The four guides each find a different weak spot in the mana, which makes the boxes easy to rank, steadiest first:

That last point is worth holding on to: of the four guides, the one that leaves every land where the box put it belongs to the deck whose mana needed the most help.

88 legendary creatures, and which boxes count them

Nearly every Marvel character is printed as a legendary creature. Across the four boxes, 88 of the 106 creatures are legendary, commanders included: 28 of 30 in Avengers Assemble, 28 of 32 in Doom Prevails, all 20 in The Fantastic Four, and 12 of 24 in Wakanda Forever. How much each box gets out of that varies a lot.

Four decks, readiest first

This is the order I'd rank them in for a deck you'll play the way it comes. The last one is the exception if you're upgrading before the first game.

Avengers Assemble: ready on the day you open it

Captain America, Team Leader puts a +1/+1 counter on each other Hero as it enters and another on himself, and gives the new arrival haste and vigilance for the turn so it can attack straight away. With 27 Heroes that happens most turns, and with 19 two-drops it starts early. The box draws well for a precon, at 14 pieces of card draw against 8 of ramp, and its guide went in expecting to fix the lands and mostly didn't.

What it gets wrong is small. Hero's Blade, Hulkbuster Armor and Gift of Immortality each build up a single creature when this deck wins with a crowd, two removal spells only hit big targets, and double blue tends to arrive late. Its guide's twelve swaps start with Shared Animosity and Flowering of the White Tree. It doesn't total them. Roaming Throne and the two new blue lands are most of the money, and the guide reckons the first two adds plus Patchwork Banner do much of the work on their own.

Doom Prevails: the engine works, the top of the curve doesn't

Doctor Doom makes each opponent lose 2 life whenever you discard land cards, and at the start of your combat he makes a Villain connive, which draws a card and then discards one. So the commander alone gives you a discard every turn, three cycling lands can discard themselves, and 37 lands keep it fed. No other commander in the set does as much with nothing around him, and the box backs him with 16 pieces of card draw, the most of the four.

The trouble starts above five mana. There are nine cards at six mana and up, and six of them have no discount and no way back from the graveyard. The worst is Lady Loki, Agent of Chaos: her trigger isn't optional, so she exiles the first instant, sorcery or Villain spell you cast each turn and offers you the next nonland card off your library in its place, in a box holding 29 Villains. Its guide cuts all six, bringing the curve from 3.65 to 3.23. It gives no total either. Roaming Throne and Bone Miser are the dear part, and it names Seismic Assault, Shared Animosity, Key to the City and Thirst for Discovery as four cheap cards that carry the plan.

Wakanda Forever: big artifacts, and a crown it can't hold

T'Challa makes a Vibranium token whenever he enters or attacks, and takes two +1/+1 counters whenever you cast an artifact spell with mana value 4 or more. The box is built for the second half, with 23 artifacts at mana value four and up and nineteen cards at exactly four. The first half is the catch. A Vibranium token has no mana cost, so its mana value is zero and it never sets T'Challa off, and its mana can't cast anything but artifacts. The box averages 3.84, the heaviest curve here.

It also draws its cards through the monarch. Eleven cards give you the crown or care who wears it, and the one that defends it is Queen Mother Ramonda, who stops creatures with power 2 or less from attacking you. Its guide's thirteen swaps go mostly to mana, with Wooded Bastion first, then Ghostly Prison and Wurmcoil Engine to keep the crown. It's the only one of the four guides that puts a figure on its swaps, about forty dollars of cards in August 2026, most of that in lands. Its curve finishes at 3.46, still the heaviest in the set.

The Fantastic Four: last as it ships, first once upgraded

Invisible Woman pays off when you attack: for {R}{G}{W}{U}, the creature you pick swings unblockable and a point bigger for every creature on your side. Human Torch and The Thing charge exactly that much for their own attack triggers, so a winning turn can call for eight coloured mana across four colours. Against that the box ships six pieces of ramp, the fewest here, 21 red sources, a ten-mana Galactus, and Lightning Greaves, whose shroud stops your own triggers from targeting whatever wears it. As it comes, this is the box I'd expect to stall most often.

It's also the deck its guide moves furthest. All eleven of its swaps are spells. Prismatic Omen makes every land you control every basic land type, Faeburrow Elder pays a whole trigger off one creature, and with Coalition Relic, Bloom Tender, Fellwar Stone and Nature's Lore every colour gains four sources. The list it ends on averages 3.15 mana, the lowest of any of the four after its guide and the biggest drop in the set. Of the eleven, the guide singles out Bloom Tender as the one expensive card, and the one to skip if you're buying selectively.

Upgraded, it still asks the most of whoever plays it. Each trigger is paid for separately, so doubling one with Annie Joins Up or Mister Fantastic asks for the four colours again. Buy it to upgrade, for a player who'll enjoy working out that sum.

Owning two of them

Invisible Woman's four colours contain two of the other boxes outright. Avengers Assemble is white, blue and red, and Wakanda Forever is green and white, so every card in either one is legal in a Fantastic Four deck. Doom Prevails is the outlier, being the only box with black. It shares blue and red with Avengers Assemble and The Fantastic Four and nothing at all with Wakanda Forever, so Doctor Doom and T'Challa can only ever share colourless cards.

The boxes overlap very little. Four cards are in all of them, Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Command Tower and Path of Ancestry, and only the Wakanda guide takes Path out. Avengers Assemble and Doom Prevails share the most, twelve cards counting those four, and ten of the twelve are lands.

The overlap that matters runs between one box and another deck's guide. Thirteen of the 48 cards the four guides add already ship in a different Marvel box:

None of the thirteen is a card its own guide cuts, so moving one leaves a gap in the deck it came from. What it does give you is a way to try part of an upgrade before you spend anything on it.

FAQ

Which Marvel Super Heroes Commander deck plays best straight out of the box?

Avengers Assemble. It has the lowest curve of the four, at an average mana value of 3.36, and Heroes make up 27 of its 30 creatures, so Captain America, Team Leader is putting counters on the board almost every turn. The first weakness its guide finds is double blue: four cards want it, and the box's 26 blue sources find two by turn three in about 74% of games.

What bracket are the Marvel Super Heroes Commander precons?

All four have a bracket floor of 1, Doom Prevails included. There's no Game Changer, mass land denial or extra-turn card in any of the boxes, and none of the 48 cards added across the four guides is a Game Changer either. The Fantastic Four's guide names the card that would change that answer for its deck: Smothering Tithe, which is a Game Changer and would put it in Bracket 3.

Is Doom Prevails better than Avengers Assemble?

Not as they ship. Avengers Assemble has the lower curve, 3.36 against 3.65, and nothing in it overrides your choice of spell the way Lady Loki, Agent of Chaos does. After each guide's swaps the curves swap places, Doom Prevails at 3.23 and Avengers Assemble at 3.31, and both guides buy Shared Animosity and Roaming Throne. Doom Prevails has the stronger engine and the deeper card draw, 16 pieces to 14.

What do the Marvel precon upgrades cost?

Only one guide gives a total: Wakanda Forever's thirteen swaps came to about forty dollars of cards in August 2026, mostly lands. The other three say where the money goes instead. In Avengers Assemble it's Roaming Throne and two new blue lands, in Doom Prevails it's Roaming Throne and Bone Miser, and in The Fantastic Four it's Bloom Tender alone. Each of those three also names a few cheap cards that carry the plan without the dear ones.

Which Marvel precons can lend each other cards?

The Fantastic Four can take anything from Avengers Assemble or Wakanda Forever, because Invisible Woman's four colours include all of theirs. Doom Prevails is the only box with black, and it shares blue and red with Avengers Assemble and The Fantastic Four and no colour at all with Wakanda Forever. Thirteen of the cards the four guides add already ship in another Marvel box, Swords to Plowshares in Avengers Assemble among them.

Is a Marvel Collector's Edition deck different to play?

No. A Collector's Edition holds exactly the hundred cards of the regular deck it's named after, all of them foil, and the regular deck's guide works for it card for card. It cost $159.99 at release against $74.99 for the regular box. Each one has its own page with its current singles value: Avengers Assemble, Doom Prevails, The Fantastic Four and Wakanda Forever.
